The story
Madring is the newest circuit in the archive, and one of its corners is guarded by the Spanish Civil War. Next to El Búnker stand two concrete machine-gun nests built in 1936–37 to defend Madrid, each weighing more than 100 tonnes, moved by crane in 2020 to make room for new exhibition halls. The lap runs 5.414 km (3.36 miles) clockwise through twenty-two turns among the halls, streets and parks of northeast Madrid.
It was built in little more than a year. The first stone was laid in April 2025, and by the time it opened, 1.3 million cubic meters of earth had been moved to give it its hills, most of it only a few meters from where it started, and 75,000 tonnes of asphalt had been laid. Its name joins Madrid and ring, after the great European circuits that end the same way, and part of the lap uses public streets that go back to being streets the rest of the year.
Its signature is La Monumental, a banked corner that turns through 270 degrees over some 550 meters, shaped like a bullring and inclined at 24 percent. Its grandstands hold around 45,000 people, nearly twice as many as Madrid’s great bullring, Las Ventas. Before it, the Subida de las Cárcavas climbs 10 meters at 8 percent, and then the road drops away past the bunkers.
The poster numbers all twenty-two turns and letters in the names chosen by the circuit, from Hortaleza and La Monumental to Las Enlazadas de Valdebebas and El Parque. Blueprint, the drafting-room edition, suits a circuit drawn from scratch only a few years ago. Other circuits in the archive carry a century of stories; this one is only writing its first.
