The story
Daytona opens the American racing year: its 24-hour race traditionally starts the season, and it has made history of its own. In 1966, the first time the race ran for a full 24 hours, two teams made up entirely of women reached the finish. A year later, three cars from the same maker slowed in the closing laps to cross the finish line side by side.
Framed, the whole speedway hangs in one piece: the great oval wrapped around a tight knot of infield, all twelve turns numbered, the International and West Horseshoes lettered in. On the wall, as on the calendar, Daytona comes first.
